Hey Jyoty!

I’ve been bumping your mixes since your BR set popped up on my TikTok a while back. I would love to help conceptualize the next phase of the Jyoty Singh universe.

I think I could be your Virgil. He often referred to himself as “creatively schizophrenic” and I definitely relate to that.

I’m a visual artist with a background in fashion and textiles (let’s make some merch!!!) but I also work in advertising. Basically, I’m a Jill of All Trades, Master of Some.

Here’s a few recent projects that show off the skills I’m working with:

I did the creative direction for a friend’s album artwork. The jumpoff point was a portrait of 1970s Yves Saint Laurent.

I recently hand painted these costumes for Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. You can see more of my textile work here.

Copywriting pays my bills ~ I wrote this WNBA commercial for Nike.

This poster accompanied the commercial. My partner and I worked with an old school illustrator to bring the concept to life.

When I was 15, I made my dad drive me around town to every record store to look for M.I.A.’s first album. The way her art and image came together with the music blew my mind. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to collaborate with musicians and DJs.

If we worked together, I’d start by asking you about what you need and the things that move you - what you love and what you don’t. Next, I’d research and pull references to make sure I’m understanding and evolving your vision. Then, I’d assemble the right creative crew to make it all happen.

Art Is The Answer

I know you aren’t totally happy with the state of touring & venues today. As a music fan, I’m not either. For years, I’ve thought the big festivals and venues were doing too much & there’s something empty about clubbing in this post-covid world. I think there’s a lot of opportunity to change things up.

When I’m trying to imagine transformation, first I look at art. Here’s some visuals that have me thinking ways about music.
